Launch of The Discovery

One More Thing to Cross off My Bucket List….
After getting up at 1:30am 3 days ago to walk to the beach and see the shuttle take off… only to be scrubbed a few more days, last night we got to see it and it was well worth the wait! They say this could be the last chance to see a night launch so I feel lucky I got to see one as it was beautiful. We are about an hour north of the launch area so we didn’t get to see the ‘blast off’ of smoke and fire but as soon as it hit the skyline we could see it clear as day. The shape of the shuttle as it rocketed into space… absolutely amazing and beautiful. Then we got to see the rockets separate and fall to the ocean (well start to as the fire was out before it hit so we didn’t actually get to see them go all the way down). Then we watched it as it became a star and then the sonic boom came! WOW! That was cool.. and have after effects for about 5 minutes of sonic booms. What a great experience and though we were tired and ready for bed hours before launch (midnight - yes we are getting old!) it was so worth staying up and seeing.
I got a video but I do wish I had brought the big video camera out as it is a much better quality and would have probably captured the beauty of it better than my digital camera. As you can see the shuttle just looks like a ball of light in the video… it doesn’t come close to what you see outside the camera with your eyes… but is a memento of the moment. Hopefully as I get older I will remember the real thing versus the video :)

Zoie 30 Weeks… Grady & Katie 1 Year!

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Yesterday was our 1 year anniversary. We forgot to do the things that we wanted to make a tradition like: watch our wedding video… read our vows again, etc. Instead we stayed in bed till 4pm, got ready - took some pics on the beach and went on a dinner cruise up the Halifax river. It was the perfect first year anniversary!

Here are a couple of photos we took for Zoie @ 30 weeks and a couple we took on the cruise.

Pebble’s Visit

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

We have had the pleasure of having Kendall come and visit us while we are in Florida, and unfortunately the non pleasure of sending her home…. as I would like to keep her around longer!

We went for a few walks on the beach, got up early and watch the sunrise on the beach, collected sea shells and more. We went on a really long bike ride the first week (which was a lot for me, but it felt great to get out and exercise that much!) A friend of ours has let me borrow her tricycle - Kendall calls it the Prego bike - and we have both had fun riding it as well as Gradyon’s bike (which is way too big for Kendall but she manages it).

Pebbles made a new friend, Morgan while visiting. Morgan is down here on vacation and left the same day as her so they spent a lot of time together. Saturday we all went to Daytona Lagoon - the local water park and had a blast. The boys enjoyed their time relaxing by the bar and harassing the girls. I enjoyed my time reading my book in the lazy river and the girls ran all over the place and went on every ride and enjoyed the boys harassing them.

Then we had a sleep over at the house. Morgan and Kendall camped in the living room with the dogs and Tony and Chief (Daisies Boyfriend) stayed as well. The boys passed out early from a long day. The girls watched a movie and fell asleep and me and the dogs were wide awake till late. I had to laugh that it was Daisie and Chief that I had to keep yelling at to settle down as they played all night, when the girls were calm and tired :)

Sunday we went to the beach with some friends. After an hour of getting ready so we had everything, snacks, canopy etc; we were only able to play for an hour on the beach as the storm clouds started rolling in. We had a nice big thunder and lightning storm in the afternoon. After it cleared up we went for ice cream and Kendall had a sleep over at Morgans house, then again the next night. She enjoyed spending time with Morgan and her family at the beach and hanging out while I worked a lot.

Tuesday we got her back - yippee, as Grady and I sat around Monday night really missing her. We went to the mall and did some school shopping and Grady got him a tool he has been waiting to get. I was really impressed with Kendall’s responsibility spending her money, she got some great deals and some cute clothes. The next day we did a bit of souvenir shopping for her family in Daytona Beach and had ice cream on the beach. Then when Grady got home we drove down to Ponce Inlet and climbed the light house. On our way the radio and our phones went off with sever thunderstorm, hail and lightning storms so it was an adventure getting to the top before they hit. When we reached the top (after climbing 204 steep stairs! - I nearly went into labor I think) it was so serene I didn’t want to go back down. We watched the storm roll in and the lightning from a distance. Kendall practically ran down the stairs and I practically crawled down the stairs and made Grady stay right below me on the way down. We explored the area of the light house and the little museums and while in the gift shop the storm hit. Grady got soaked getting us girls an umbrella (which helped a little but the rain was coming down so hard we got really wet anyway). It was a fun evening.

Friday night before she left we were planning on seeing a baseball game. However about an hour before the game was to start we looked up and saw black black clouds rolling in and decided to go out to eat instead. Little did we know the storm went around us and I dont even think we saw rain. Kendall said it was more fun going out to eat at Caribbean Jacks where we sat on a swinging bench than it was to go to the ball game. Her and Grady pestered each other and were entertaining each other all night so I think they would have had fun doing anything. After dinner we visited a friend from Grady’s school on his little yacht that he lives on there in the Marina - it was fun to see the inside and has me dreaming of living on a boat :) We are all wound up so it was hard to go home at a descend time so we could pack and get everything ready for waking up at 3:30am to get Pebbles off to the airport.

Her stay was the perfect amount, any longer and I think she would have been really home sick; however any shorter and she would have wanted to stay longer. I could keep her forever though - Grady, me and especially the puppies are really going to miss her. She was the perfect house guest and entertainer for me… now who is going to entertain me?
