Winter Wonderland

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Grady says i was singing Christmas songs yesterday, but i was singing Winter Wonderland because we woke up to a couple of feet of snow yesterday morning. One weather report said we might have snow, others just rain… so we thought it would be a light snow - however i think it is the most snow in the shortest period of time that we have had all winter. It was a total blizzard for most of the day and today it is sunny and bright and really pretty with all the snow! We had fun watching the puppies up past their bellies in the snow and i think they did too! We took some pictures to share with everyone.

2 little sticks…. positive

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

First off i want to tell you all that my New Years resolution is going so well! I have lost approx 2 pant sizes and going down. Trying to keep healthy (with a few slip ups… a lot but i try!) and staying active at the gym. Its really excited to watch some of the extra wait start to shed off… just in time for me to put it back on!

About 2 weeks ago… or so I got sick in the morning and Grady told me i was pregnant. So being a smart ass he leaves an old pregnancy test in the bathroom for me (its been in the drawer for years… in fact it expires Feb ‘09). I laugh at him and decide that i am going to take it as it is going in the garbage if not. It is negative… no big deal - we have a joke about it. Little did we know that day or I actually think the night before did we create a baby together.

The last few days i have been sick.. not really sick but weird sick. Just not right and my tummy upset but not… anyway I just thought it was my ’slip ups’ in my diet as i have been really good all of January but this last week has been a lot more junk and drinks. Saturday morning after breakfast and on our way to Grandma and Grandpas in Vegas I was ready for a nap already. I told Grady and he could visit as i wanted to take a nap on the couch and between the sick and the tired he tells me once again I am pregnant (I think he wants to be a daddy… what do you think?). We both said no then we both realized that i am a week late.

Still… I am not the most regular as we know i have been late in the past. However, it was on my mind all day. Grandma Meeks was actually the first to know as I mentioned something while at their house. Grady has to call her to confirm this morning but lucky Great Grandma :) By the time we pulled into Mesquite on the way home I was so close to making Grady stop at Walgreens before we got to Denni’s for Hailee’s birthday party, but i decided not to worry about it yet.

After the party on our way home we stopped at Walgreens in Cedar on our way to pick up the puppies from mom. Graydon looked in every other department avoiding… then studying what tests are right… of course we had to go down the chocolate aisle and buy some chocolate. By this time i had to pee pretty bad and went to moms. However, I wasn’t going to tell her yet so I danced in her kitchen needing to pee but holding it in so I had plenty when we got home.

No longer than we walk in the door i open the box and go pee on the stick. I see the 2 horizontal lines and wonder what it means as i didn’t bother to see what meant what. So i put it down and go back to the kitchen to read the box. It’s negative. As I walk back to the bathroom I tell Grady that I am not pregnant, just another fun test to take as i look down and there was a vertical line that wasn’t there before. Ummm… Ummm.. what does this mean? I didn’t know what to think - it was so not real.. and it was a light line. Grady didn’t believe it as he thought there was something wrong, but the line got a little darker.

At this point do I call mom? I wanna. We dont know for sure its only one test but I really want to tell her. Grady said to call her if I want but I was taking another one. So I called and told her not to go to sleep and it would be worth it - she of course said “you cant move”. Which seems to be everyone’s first comment out of their mouths. I told her I would call later and either confirm or disappoint her but she was not to say a word to my dad (easy as he was knocked out asleep in North Carolina hours ahead of us).

After 2 liters of water and a glass of tea, Grady made me pee in a cup so we could count the seconds and makes sure of it. No longer before we put it down the vertical line started showing and it was defiantly a yes!

Don’t ever take a pregnancy test at 10pm… then if it turns out positive you have to drink a gallon of water to of course take another one (so you pee all night) – then get so excited you have to wake your friends up and go see them in the middle of the night and then get no sleep! Not recommended… FYI take them in the morning when you have the day ahead of you!

Now What… We couldn’t sleep so of course we analyzed and thought out our whole future last night. We defiantly have options as life always gives us. As of right now we still plan on moving to Florida and being there April 1st. We reserved a Budget truck already and have the house we are in taken care of. Things have fallen right into place for us to be there by then. I think more than ever right now we need to go and get Grady through school. He needs to find a steady career that he will love and if we wait we may never get the opportunity to pack up and move cross country for school as easy as we can. There will defiantly be a few more challenges than planned and my ideas of my bikini and Mojito’s on the beach might be little walks on the beach with my tummy, my puppies and my hubby. The one plan that might change is instead of this being a year in Florida and then where it takes us… there is a higher chance of life taking us right back to Southern Utah to be with our families.

That’s That! A little surprise, a lot of excitement and a whole life change ahead of us.

The Solution To Permanent Weight Loss

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

I found this great article that goes with our Seven+ Drink and weight loss. For all of you with our same goals that want to see read the 7 Steps to a healthier lifestyle - this blog is one of the best i have seen - i got it from here: http://juiceduplife.info/?paged=2

Many people are still under the misguided assumption that reducing calorie intake is the solution to weight loss. Although calorie reduction can help with weight loss, calorie reduction alone will not result in the results you want.

When fewer calories are consumed, the body readjusts to a slower metabolic rate and burns fewer calories. Thus, there is little long term benefit.

Research now shows that to have a fast and permanent impact on weight loss a combination of steps is required.

In step 1 you will eat smaller portions but eat more often throughout the day. Having frequent meals is a sure way to increase metabolism. Going for long periods without food often sets up a situation where the body burns muscle tissue. Muscle speeds up fat burning and metabolism, so you should attemt to maintain as much muscle mass as you can. You can solve this problem by eating small meals throughout the day.

the second step is to detoxify your colon. Many people today walk around with five to ten pounds of putrefied waste in their colons. The elimination of excess waste can result in a dramatic drop in weight of five pounds or more.

Your body will be more able to absorb the nutrients from the food you eat when you get rid of this waste.

Step three is to consume more high quality protein, fewer carbohydrates and less dietary fat. High quality proteins include chicken breast, salmon and lean cuts of beef like sirloin. These high protein foods help build muscle mass which in turn boosts metabolism.

Cutting all carbohydrates is detrimental. Carbohydrates are fuel for our bodies and supply our energy needs. However, overeating carbohydrates often results in a spike in insulin which can result in excess fat storage.

Because body fat and dietary fat are similar, the body is very efficient at storing dietary fat as body fat. You don’t need a lot of dietary fat if you are trying to lose weight.

Protein is the nutrient for revving up the metabolism. It supports normal thyroid hormone levels and thus plays a major role in fat burning.

Eating foods that burn fat is step four. Vegetables temper the release of insulin. Since elevated insulin can make the body more efficient at storing fat, eating vegetables will decrease the chance that the body will enter a fat-storing state.

Another important reason to eat more vegetables is that some, like broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower have fat fighting compounds called indoles. Estrogen, produced by both men and women is body fat friendly and these indoles interfere with it’s uptake.

Boost metabolism with nutritional supplementation in step five. Science has discovered unique compounds in some foods that you can get in supplement form that helps the body burn fat. Some of these include green tea, acai berry, whey protein and even cold water fish oil.

Other supplements such as hoodia help decrease the appetite.

Step six involves weight training which increases metabolism and burns more fat than slow cardio. Recent studies have proven that weight training boosts metabolism and keeps fat burning active longer than cardio alone. This works on two different levels.

Lifting weights produces larger amounts of muscle. The more muscle tissue you have, the higher your metabolic rate.

Another point, is that resistance training creates more anabolic hormones in the body. Anabolic hormones drive the metabolism which supports the burning of more fat. Due to the fact that the body requires calories to rebuild, you will keep a higher metabolic rate for a longer period of time.

Step 7 is doing high impact cardio. With high impact cardio you do quick but short bursts of energy and then a slow down or rest period. Not only will this burn more calories than slow cardio, but will have an effect similar to weight training by keeping the metabolism revved longer.

The best approach to cardio is to do it first thing in the morning before eating. Because this is when blood glucose is low, the body will burn fat rather than glucose.

To avoid overtraining and muscle breakdown limit your cardio to ten to fifteen minutes. But these ten to fifteen minutes should work you more than 30 -40 minutes of slow-low impact cardio and will burn more calories. You should have a good sweat going after your ten to fifteen minute cardio workout.

The key to fast and permanent weight loss is more than simply reducing calories. But includes a combination of steps that are much more powerful when inacted together.

Happy New Years 2009

Cheers to a New Year! 2009 is going to be a fun filled adventurous year as we have a lot of great plans.

Our first big plan that we started after a wild night of fun New Years Eve (Check out the pictures). Is our diets! Yes… Grady and me are going to get healthy again. We have been going to the gym often and not much results but our eating habits are not what they used to be or should be. I am doing the cabbage soup diet for a week and Grady something else. After that we are dedicated to changing our lifestyle and to drop these extra pounds that we have somehow shown up on our bodies without us knowing! Along with our new bods we are going to grow our hair out.. yes we. Grady has decided that he is going to try to grow his hair out too - it should be wonderful as i love long hair… but we will see how it lasts!

Our next big adventure planed, as some of you know, is we are going to be moving to Daytona Beach, FL this year. Plans are not set on timing as there are many different things in the pile that are determining the when and how…. but we will be leaving in the year of 2009 to create a beach lifestyle for us… and Grady is going to school for Marine Mechanics. His dream is to open a boat shop, as most of you know that is his passion and we have decided that this year we are going to take the leap and start making his dream come true. Along with that the best thing is starting his dream makes mine come true as well… i get to live on the beach again for a while! Though we are really going to miss our families, our new and old friends that we have gotten to love more each day living in Cedar… this move is going to be a great stepping stone of a new chapter of our live together as Mr. and Mrs. Meeks (as soon as i get my name changed!)

This year i have some huge plans that i have been putting off for my business that I am really excited about moving in a forward motion. Grady will start his new direction with the first steps to his new business and we foresee a great year ahead of us.
